London Wolves long-serving chairman Stuary Earl opened the proceedings, slightly overwhelmed by the turnout and how great everything looked with a sea of gold and black and beautiful flower arrangements from Heather. He welcomed JR, John G, Mel and Simon who had also graced a recent AGM showing videos of them all in action. We were also very pleased to welcome the return of Dave Dungar and Barbara who had joined us many times before back to the Chaucer days.
John Gough was certain that we would soon be returning to the Premier League and has confidence in Nathan Shi’s leadership.
Nathan had planned to attend our dinner to celebrate with us but sent apologies through John that he had to go to a Chinese FA meeting in Shanghai
Our thanks also to Neil Dady representing the Wolves 1877 Trust.
Both Stuart and John Richards reflected of the sad losses in former players and in our own membership, and both referred to the recent loss of Terry Wharton, Lofty and our best Captain of our 60 years who always felt at home at The Valley - Mike Bailey.
After the meal, John Gough was delighted to announce a very special auction, one that he had aslso been able to take to Daventry’s 50th - 2 seats in the Directors’ box and a meal with the Directors before a match at Molineux, in aid of fundraising for WWLSC. John, ably assisted by “his runner” John Richards raised the princely sum of £1,100 bid by Dave “Dodges” Hodges. He has been very ill but he credited Derek Archer with saving his life when he visited him and asked Derek to join him to share this prize.
Jack Leonard, accompanied by son Jacob, told the story of how, at a Steve Saul event at Molineux, he had been determined to win a 1980 LCF signed shirt, and unbeknown to both of them, so was Stef. So they were bidding against each other. Jack kindly offered the framed shirt also for WWLSC funds and one of the signatories, LCF Winner Mel Eves auctioned it for £200 - a bargain.
We had a good selection of raffle prizes where the winners are shown in the gallery below, but the star was our youngest member Jacob Leonard who won a shirt and the They Wore the Shirt Book to accompany it. Mel also felt that Jake should be awarded the special Molineux pack that was his prize. Derek A should also be mentioned for having difficulty choosing a prize when offered either hair curlers or alcohol.
